How to Activate the Environment

cd ~/ansible-onboarding
source .venv/bin/activate
ansible --version
ansible-lint --version

Extensions Installed in VS Code

• WSL (Microsoft) — connects VS Code to WSL2 Ubuntu
• Ansible (Red Hat) — language support, linting, autocomplete
• YAML (Red Hat) — YAML validation and schema support
• Python (Microsoft) — Python interpreter integration
• EditorConfig — enforces consistent formatting across the team

SSH Key

• Location: ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
• Type: ed25519
• Note: Never commit private keys to the repo

Git Config

• Default Branch: main

New Machine? Do This:

1. Install WSL2 Ubuntu on Windows
2. Run: sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y python3-venv python3-pip git
3. Clone the repo: git clone ~/ansible-onboarding
4. Create venv: python3 -m venv .venv && source .venv/bin/activate
5. Install dependencies: pip install -r requirements.txt
6. Install pre-commit hooks: pre-commit install
7. Generate SSH key: ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "you@company.com" -N "" -f ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
8. Start SSH agent: eval $(ssh-agent -s) && ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
9. Set Git identity: git config --global user.name "Your Name"
10. Set Git email: git config --global user.email "you@company.com"
11. Open in VS Code: code .
12. Verify: ansible --version && ansible-lint --version && ssh-add -l
